Aging In Place
The term aging in place is a reference to living where you have lived for many years, or to living in a non-healthcare environment, and using products, services and conveniences to enable you to not have to move as circumstances change.
A more accessible home to an individual that uses a walker or a wheelchair could mean ramps in place of stairs, wider doorways or a shower without a step so you can roll in.
Every person or couple is different in their needs. If the problem is your not steady you might need grab bars located at strategic locations. If you like to relax in a tub but find it difficult to lift your leg over the tub you might want a walk in tub.
If you are healthy enough that you don't need assisted living there is no need to move from the home you have been living in. With minor renovations your home can be customized for your individual needs. Take a look at our Home Saftey Check List to see what you might need.
